During this time of year, ice is abundant, and abundantly obnoxious. It makes sidewalks slippery, roads treacherous, and there’s always the chance you might die in a freak icicle-to-the-forehead accident. Yet ice also reduces our swelling and cools our drinks! And…serves as a surprisingly effective beauty treatment?  Here’s two ways you can incorporate ice into your beauty routine this winter and all year round. If late nights or overindulgent holiday parties leave you waking up with bloodshot, swollen horror movie eyes, apply an ice cube all around the eye area. Just like you might ice a sprained ankle to bring down swelling, the ice will de-puff and wake up your eyes. The shot of cold will help you feel more alert, too. The same principle can be applied to the face – ice shrinks blood vessels and capillaries, reducing redness and flushed skin. During winter, when harsh weather can irritate skin, ice and a good moisturizer just might be your skin’s saving grace. Just remember to limit direct skin contact to 10 or 15 seconds only in any one particular area. Expensive lotions and potions are always fun…but you gotta love beauty right out of the freezer.
