Although this week we’ve been reminding you to #SIGNOFF and enjoy your connections offline… there’s something to be said for all the connection potential online… in the love department. Despite many singles’ worries of scams and fake pictures, millions are finding butterflies and soul mates starting with http://. According to a study by Match.com, 1 in 5 singles are currently in a committed relationship with someone they met on a dating site, and in the last year 17% of couples who married had met online. We tapped popular dating bloggers Simone Grant, a woman seeking a man, and Nando, a man seeking a man, to share their 5 favorite URLs to get their flirt on, and why. Simone’s Top 5 Online Dating Sites: 1) Match.com: The big daddy of ‘em all, I’ve come to appreciate Match in the last few months. I’ve met several attractive, interesting guys in my target demographic (Manhattan, handsome, 35-ish-50ish) and they all seem to be interested in LTRs (Long Term Relationships). 2) OkCupid: OkCupid definitely gets my vote for best free site. It’s actually hard to believe that the site is free, as I’d rank its service and features as #1. And if I were interested in dating 28-year old boys (who were interested in dating 40 year old women) I’d be on 24/7. 3) Nerve.com: Nerve.com is one of the many portals to fastcupid’s online dating empire. Nerve.com’s user actually get mixed in with users from lots of other sites. Whoever is running the show, this site has a great mix of artsy/academic types + a tiered payment system that allows you to ride for free. 4) Thread: Even though I’ve yet to meet anyone via this application, I’ve started to look forward to my daily Thread updates. Some of my friends have some very cute friends. 5) Urban Signals: Officially a mobile dating app and not an online dating site – Urban Signals made my list, anyway, for its ability to turn my iPhone into a matchmaker. Nando’s Top 5 Dating Sites (in reverse, for dramatization): 5) Yahoo Personals: It’s gotten me through some long winters. 4) Adam4Adam.com: It showed me that there are more desperate people than me–and then they set me up with ’em. F U N ! 3) Match.com: Because they always matched me up with transvetites who owned lesbian cats. 2) Craigslist: I mean, what other site allows you to find a job, an apartment and date–all in the same day! 1) GRINDR: Although it’s technically not a dating site but more of a sexy playground–that’s where I found my Mexican prince.
