Many people believe that like homeopathic remedies and flower essences work through human energy fields, which in turn influence mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Similarly, many believe that yoga, reflexology, meditation and cleansing spa treatments re-align your center and promote detoxification.

In an effort to explore the connection between natural remedies and spa treatments, we have composed a small experiment to help promote relaxation and overall well being.

Below are the top 10 botanical gardens in the US. As you scroll down, take a second to stop and look at each plant image associated with each post. Take your hand off the mouse and using your index finger and thumb, gently squeeze the fleshy part of your other hand (between the index finger and thumb) for 10 seconds. Breathe in and out slowly and deliberately. Scroll down to the next image and repeat.

At the end of the list, take a second to stretch your neck by slowly rolling it from side to side, then counter-clockwise and clockwise, then up and down. Don’t forget to breathe.

US Botanic Garden (Washington DC)
Officially maintained by US Congress, the includes the Conservatory, National Garden, and Bartholdi Park and is located adjacent to the grounds of the US Capitol. Here you can visit the butterfly garden, rose garden, and the First Ladies’ Water Garden can be viewed in the National Garden

Brooklyn Botanic Garden (Brooklyn, New York)
This is the most visited botanic garden in the US over 12,000 unique plant varieties located on 52 acres full of immaculately manicured grounds full of winding paths. The experience includes a cherry tree avenue, a rose garden covering 1 acre and a fragrance garden designed for the blind.

UC-Davis Arboretum (Davis, California)
The University of California – Davis Arboretum, located about 15 miles west of Sacramento, California features the Carolee Shields White Flower Garden – designed after moon-viewing gardens in India and Japan that feature light shaded blooms, and the Redwood Memorial Grove full of the famous giant trees.

Missouri Botanical Garden (St. Louis, Missouri)
The St. Louis based garden features the largest Japanese garden in the Western Hemisphere as well as the Climatron, a dome conservatory featuring exotic tropical plants, and a children’s garden complete with a limestone cave and tree house.

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden (Coral Gables, Florida)
Located on the outskirts of Miami, Florida, Fairchild’s mission is to conserve tropical plants by promoting tropical plant diversity rare plants of the tropical variety. Highlights in the garden include over 5550 varieties of palms.

Chicago Botanic Garden (Chicago, Illinois)
The Garden covers 385 acres situated on nine islands encompassed by lakes at the outskirts of the city. The garden includes some 9500 unique plant varieties.

Denver Botanic Gardens (Denver, Colorado)
Established in 1951, the garden is home immaculately manicured grounds with natural mountain wildflowers and alpine trails.

The National Tropical Botanical Garden (Kauai, Hawaii)
The tropical gardens are actually composed of three gardens on the Hawaiian Islands. The network of gardens was created in order to encompass a variety of ecosystems and tropical plants.

Arnold Arboretum (Boston, Massachusetts)
Maintained by Harvard University, the Arnold Arboretum is the oldest public arboretum in the US.

Memphis Botanic Garden (Memphis, Tennessee)
The garden covers 96 acres including lakes, woodlands, gardens, the revered Japanese Garden of Tranquility, and the Sensory Garden, this attraction brings in over 150,000 visitors annually.

They claim the most significant impact comes from re-balancing emotional states, which are believed to be the causative factors behind most, if not all, illness. Combining the two, like in our experiment, can positively affect your overall state of mind, decrease blood pressure and relieve physical tension.
