Alright, this week we are going to keep it short and sweet 😉 Do you ever feel bloated from eating fruit or drinking fruit juice? Well, a lot of people complain that they don’t like to eat fruit or drink juice because they get gassy or bloated and sheepishly I have to admit it happens to me too. Feeling bloated leaves us feeling heavy and yucky and does not help us lose weight by accident.

So, I went on a mission to figure out why, because that is what I do. Curiosity grabs a hold of me and there is no turning back.

Basically, our bodies digest fruit the fastest. The hierarchy of digestion is as follows (from easy to hard) fruit, veggies, grains, lentils, dairy, and finally protein. For example, if you are having toast for breakfast and you have some berries on the side the berries are going to digest much faster than the toast. What happens is the fruit sits on top of the grains in your digestive track and starts to putrefy (for lack of a better word). As the fruit putrefies your stomach bloats and you start to get a little gassy.

It is simple to prevent all of this from happening! Eat fruit or drink juice on an empty stomach. When you do this, even if the fruit is acidic like oranges, it will be alkalizing to your body. Remember alkaline foods such as greens are what help you to lose weight easily and keep your body healthy and happy!

Have fruit first thing in the morning or before your meals to stave off bloat and gas.

Side note: For those of you who suffer from acid reflux, the only way acidic fruits, like limes, turn acidic in your stomach is if you are eating it with other types of food. Have fruit on an empty stomach and you will be totally fine!
