Just two doors down from the original Hotel California stands a classy, luxurious boutique destination: JW Marriott Santa Monica Le Merigot, a Hotel & Spa right on the beach with an aesthetic inspired by France’s Cote d’Azur and  blended with SoCal’s lush, beachy charisma. The views are splendid, the service impeccable, and the spa… charming. I was invited to stay for two nights during my trip to LA, and it’s decidedly a great destination for pleasure and business alike.

Check out my mini photo tour, from a chill happy hour my first evening at Le Troquet Bar with a strawberry mojito and seared tuna salad, to the views from my private beachfront balcony, to the soothing spa downstairs, all instagram’d for your viewing pleasure (follow my insta-life at @michellejoni!):

Views from my balcony, including something of a birds eye view…

The Spa Le Merigot is tucked two levels below the lobby; put on the fluffy robe and JW slippers provided, slip into the “spa elevator” for privacy, and head down to indulge in their exquisite selection spa services. Men’s and women’s locker rooms feature a sauna, steamroom (a really strong one), showers, and cold lemon towels. Fruit, tea and cucumber water are complimentary in the retail shop.

With summer coming, and remnants of my spray tan from last week at completely bare still showing, I opted for the Tropical Oasis – a body scrub and wrap, as described on the menu:

This anti-aging body treatment begins with a mango-passion fruit exfoliation followed by a creamy yogurt wrap with lush tropical fruits. You are transported to a sublime tropical oasis where your senses are gently awakened and phenomenal visible results are obtained. Your skin emerges revived, refreshed, firmer, vividly brighter, and evenly toned.

What they didn’t mention was the invigorating scalp and foot massage while letting the nutrients soak in during the tropically aromatic yogurt/fruit wrap. That feeling of head to toe pampering is all it takes to seal it off as a complete spa experience, and my esthetician Samantha delivered it all with the utmost skill and care.

While staying at Le Merigot, or anywhere on the beach for that matter, I recommend you rent a bicycle for $6/hour and see where it takes you. Take a ride up on the beach bike path to the boardwalk in Venice, ride out to Lemonade (if you love sampling creative dishes) or the Omelette Parlor (for a hearty breakfast) for a bite, and take a stroll on the Santa Monica Pier. Also, check out Varga for some shopping – a feminine, feel-happy and affordable boutique on Main Street. I bought the cutest stuff!

I highly recommend Le Merigot as a vacation spot for couples on a romantic getaway, for families with older children, and also as a luxurious business stopover. They are currently undergoing a “beautification” which I can only imagine will add to the boutique-style splendor of this Santa Monica beach destination.

My stay and spa treatment at Spa Le Merigot were complimentary, however all opinions stated are my own, and quite genuine; please view the full disclosure here.
