Sure, doing laundry and dishes then jumping and cheering on the softball sidelines is considered exercise! Or is it? Our 2nd Biannual Hot Mom Spa Night last week gave our #HotSpaMoms a break to relax at the spa, but what of their fitness regimes? Hot Mom Rachel Ferrucci of her namesake blog knows not from one generation – but two! – that playtime makes for an secretly awesome workout. Check out how this hot grandma’s makin’ moves.

Trying to find time to exercise when you have little ones at home is very hard. Life keeps us #HotSpaMoms very busy and it would be great if the days had 52 hours in them! However, Moms are great at multi-tasking so here are a few things I do to turn exercising into playtime with the kids.

  1. Dancing – Children love music and they love to dance. Dance (I mean REALLY dance) for 10-15 mins and you will feel the work out. Your child will also learn some new steps. (A little Beyonce on YouTube will get you all silly.)
  2. Jumping Jacks – These are oldies but goodies. The kids may think you have lost your mind but once they get over laughing at you, they’ll join in. (10-15 mins of jumping jacks will burn about 100 calories!)
  3. Airplane – Toddlers love The Airplane. Lay on your back and put your feet on their belly, hold their hands and lift your legs straight up in the air. Bring your knees down toward your stomach and lift them up again. You will feel this in your thighs and calves.
  4. Sit-ups/Crunches – Have your child sit on your feet and as you come up, make a face, say “boo” or whatever will entertain your child when he/she sees your face. I have six-pack hear me ROAR!
  5. Stretching – While doing your stretching, use this time to teach counting, up and down, and left and right. Make sure you narrate everything you’re doing, from body part to how many seconds you’re holding.

If you follow these easy tips, you’ll get exercise into your day. You’ll also be teaching that exercising can be fun!
