In honor of the Stay Summer Slim Giveaway, here are healthy activities to enjoy this summer in NYC.

Called the “concrete jungle,” New York City isn’t always known for its outdoor activity scene. But there is plenty of outdoor fun to be had here all summer long, and the park isn’t the only place to enjoy fresh air in Manhattan!

One lucky Spa Weeker and friend will win a healthy getaway to NYC this summer, thanks to our Stay Summer Slim Giveaway. In honor of this amazing opportunity, we’ve rounded up five healthy summer activities to do whilst in NYC during the summertime! Here are our suggestions:

Kayaking at the Downtown Boathouse

There may not be any sandy beaches in Manhattan-proper, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get near the water! Kayaking the Hudson is the perfect way to enjoy the riverfront without getting too close (the kayaks are of the sit-on-top kind). With four locations to choose from, we can’t think of a better way to see the city skyline and get your heart-pumping at the same time. Bonus: it’s free!

Rooftop Fitness Classes

Rooftop bars are always a must-see in NYC. But what about a healthier version of this trend? CLAY Health Club + Spa in Chelsea puts a unique spin on summer fitness. Until the end of September, you can take a high barre, yoga or H.E.A.T. (high energy active training) class on the facility’s roof! Classes are free for members and run from $25-32 for non-members.

Take a Walk on the High Line

The High Line is a must-see NYC park, built on a rail line above the streets of Manhattan.  Stroll along the scenic west side, high above the streets of The Big Apple. The High Line is the perfect opportunity to forego an expensive cab and take a nice walk in nature. You won’t forget the view!

Rent a Citi Bike

The Citi Bike program is new to NYC, debuting just a few months ago. It seems like within weeks, massive bike racks popped up on every corner. Citi Bikes are the perfect way for tourists and Manhattanites alike to travel the city. Purchase a 24 hour pass for $9.95, or get seven days of biking bliss for just $25!

Tai Chi in Bryant Park

Beat the heat and check out an early morning Tai Chi class, right in Bryant Park! They’re free and held Tuesday and Thursday mornings all summer long. The combination of the serene, gentle movements of Tai Chi and the beauty of the park will start your day off on a calming and positive note.
