National Vodka Day has its own website and has been “celebrated” as a holiday since 2009. This year the holiday falls on Friday (even more reason to celebrate), and we’ve got you covered.

First, here’s some vodka trivia for you to share–you never know when you might end up on a game show! Vodka became popular in the ’70s when it replaced bourbon as the “go-to” spirit for mixed drinks.  Because it’s carbon filtered and contains very little oil, vodka is one of the purest drinks in the world. When it was first created in Russia, it was used for medicinal purposes. Vodka is derived from the Russian word for water. The most popular flavorings for vodkas are: red pepper, ginger, fruit flavors, vanilla, chocolate and cinnamon.
