Sometimes it seems as if there’s a new Hollywood diet every other week, so it’s tough to decipher which ones are worth trying out. Of all the fads, however, there is one diet that has had some serious staying power despite the strict guidelines that it necessitates. Find out what we discovered when we set out to get the scoop on veganism, and how our favorite celebrities fared the animal product-free diet:

Beyoncé & Jay Z

Not even the ultimate celebrity power couple could resist jumping on the vegan bandwagon. Bey and Jay dipped their toes into veganism with the 22 Days Challenge. Judging by the mouth-watering vegan creations Sasha Fierce posted on Instagram, we would say their trial was a success.

Lea Michele

Glee’s golden girl, Lea Michele said she turned to a vegan diet because of the health benefits a meatless diet boasts. “It’s about being good to your body and the planet. I’m a foodie, but I think it’s much more fun to find things on the menu that are good for me,” she told Women’s Health.

Olivia Wilde

It looks like Olivia Wilde’s vegan diet is paying off – after all she was named PETA’s sexiest vegetarian celeb in 2010. But, the hilarious actress denies weight loss is the reason she made the choice to be meat-free. “[Being vegan] is not always easy and accessible. But it’s a way of life and makes me as a person feel really good and physically look better,” she explained.

Ellen DeGeneres

The beloved talk show host has made it her mission to spread awareness about veganism, and even has delicious meatless recipes on her website. She also gives advice to those trying out a vegan diet, and these three tips are especially helpful. DeGeneres’ suggestions for newbies are:

  1. Go vegan at home, but let yourself eat whatever you want when you’re out socializing.
  2. Remove one ingredient at a time. Week 1 is no beef, Week 2 remove pork, and so on.
  3. Assign a “vegan day” once a week where you eat only vegan food and try a new recipe.

Alicia Silverstone

The benefits Alicia Silverstone enjoyed from switching to a vegan diet were so astounding, it inspired her to write her own vegan cookbook called The Kind Diet. The Clueless star revealed some surprising beauty bonuses after she changed the way she eats. “I used to have all those white marks on my nails and they were very brittle, and now they’re so strong I cannot bend them,” she said. “My eyes got really white, and I feel like I look less puffy.”
