Juicing is all the rage these days, and we can’t say we haven’t hopped on board this bandwagon. We’ve already scouted out the best juice bars in NYC and shared the recipe for Stacy Stowers’ Happy Shake. This week, we chatted with renowned dermatologist, Dr. Ariel Ostad, on the beauty-boosting benefits of juicing for the skin.

Dr. Ostad says, “the best juice ingredients for clear, glowing skin include leafy vegetables, such as lettuce, spinach, cucumber, celery and the veggie of the moment, kale. Adding beets for natural sugar and fresh lemons are great additions for the skin. These vegetables are not only great for your skin, but they also help with weight loss. Blueberries, green tea, and protein are also great ingredients for juices to add nutritional value that will allow for anti-aging and metabolism boosting benefits.”

Specifically, Dr. Ostad filled us in on the fact that green leafy veggies are high in antioxidants (a skincare superstar). Blueberries and green tea are also rife with skin-loving ingredients. Dr. Ostad shared with us the below recipe for his “Morning Mix” juice that will leave your skin healthy and glowing all day long!

Blueberries in a White Bowl

Dr. Ostad’s Morning Mix

  • 4 Crushed Ice Cubes
  • ½ cup Iced Green Tea
  • ½ cup Unsweetened Blue Berry Juice
  • ½ Frozen Unsweetened Acai’ Smoothie Pak
  • 1 cup Frozen Blueberries
  • 1 scoop Protein Powder

Directions

In a blender place crushed ice cubes, blueberry juice (enough to just cover the ice, approx. ½ cup), half a frozen Acai smoothie pak, and protein powder.  Blend until smooth.  Add the frozen blueberries and Green Tea.  Blend until smooth, pour and enjoy!

This recipe is only about 75 calories, low in natural sugar, and is loaded with antioxidants (Blueberries & Green Tea), anti-aging and metabolism boosting Acai’, and protein…making it the perfect way to start your day!
