tarte cosmetics was founded in 1999 by CEO Maureen Kelly after she became frustrated that she couldn’t find “healthy” makeup lines. After looking for cosmetics made of pure ingredients that packed a powerful punch she wasn’t impressed with what she saw. That’s when she decided to create the line of her dreams on her own.Today tarte is one of the top eco-chic and cruelty-free beauty lines.

Brands like tarte are very important to the beauty industry because they heighten quality and standards throughout the field. I’m always thankful for any brand that goes above and beyond to bring quality, healthy skin care and makeup to the masses. That’s why one of my favorite things about tarte is the ingredients they use.

tarte’s formulas are made up of superfruits, plant extracts, vitamins, minerals, essential oils and other naturally-derived ingredients. Sure, there are a lot of brands these days selling products with all-natural ingredients , but what they don’t tell you is that these products often contain parabens, mineral oil, phthalates, gluten, and synthetic fragrances. tarte wouldn’t touch those chemicals or preservatives with a ten-foot pole.

Did I mention that their packaging is to-die-for-adorable? To celebrate that fact that wedding season is in full swing, we’re hooking up one bride-to-be with tarte’s Blushing Bride Wedding Day Essential Kit. Whether you’re the one walking down the aisle or it’s your BFF, check out our Q&A with tarte’s top makeup artist to learn all the best tips and tricks when it comes to bridal beauty.

After you’ve brushed up on your makeup skills, we’ve got all the details on how you can enter to win tarte’s undeniably perfect bridal kit filled with a handpicked selection of the brand’s best-selling essentials.

What should brides focus on when it comes to wedding day beauty?

Brides should aspire for a look that is an enhanced version of their current everyday look. Quality beauty products are essential and skincare is key.

How do you suggest brides touch up their own makeup throughout the if they’ve had it done professionally?

Brides should always have a small touch-up kit that consists of a compact powder that reduces shine, a slim concealer stick that provides natural to medium coverage, and  a lip color. My favorite product for bridal touch-ups is tarte’s Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay tinted pressed finishing powder. The finish is super smooth, excellent for photographs, and simple for a bride to sweep over her skin in seconds.

How can brides make their makeup last all day and night?

Primer is crucial for the big day. Skin should be hydrated and perfected to ensure all-day wear that holds up into the night. I apply tarte’s Clean Slate Flawless 12-hour Brightening Primer to hydrate and brighten the skin. I use this product in my everyday beauty regimen and I think it’s especially necessary for brides. I also like to press tarte’s Timeless Smoothing Primer into the skin with my fingertips. It’s like an Instagram filter for the face and blurs nearly every imperfection of the skin. These two primers work together to provide hydration and hold makeup in place.

What are some common bridal beauty mistakes?

Some brides get caught up in the chaos of the day and they don’t take the time to pamper themselves or perfect their beauty routine. Skincare, primer, and a flawless complexion are key players for photographs. When the event is complete the photographs are the memories so the makeup is important.

How can brides ensure that their makeup will photograph flawlessly?

For flawlessly photographed makeup here’s everything a bride needs: the right skincare routine, primer, foundation, concealer, anti-shine powder, highlighter, and contour. When it comes to skincare, using products with natural ingredients like Amazonian clay is recommended because it will balance dry and oily areas. It’s also waterproof for sweat in warm climates and from dancing the night away.

Any beauty tips for teary-eyed brides?

Waterproof mascara and eyeliner are always a bride’s best bet for the big day. I recommend tarte’s Lights, Camera, Splashes waterproof mascara.

Have there been any major changes in bridal makeup trends in the past 10 years?

Brides are more inspired to replicate a period of time and we are seeing weddings influenced by the 20’s and 60’s eras. The looks are taken into careful consideration from head to toe where brides put an emphasis on quality beauty products.

How can brides transition daytime ceremony makeup to an evening reception look?

My favorite transition is to add a winged liner with tarte’s Light’s, Camera, Lashes precision longer eyeliner. The felt tip is easy to apply, quick, and the pigment is perfect for photographs. Then, I would apply tarte’s matte LipSurgence lip tint in lively or fiery for a pop of color so the bride has an evening look that is glamorous and effortless.

What’s your best tip bridal beauty tip?

Always wear a look that makes you feel like the most beautiful version of yourself and spend the same amount of time investing in quality beauty products as you did on your dress.

My husband proposed to me at my favorite restaurant. We are planning our 25th wedding renewal.

My husband and I will celebrate our tenth anniversary next spring. I loved his proposal- he had designed a ring with his cousin, who is a jeweler. This cousin took so long to finish the ring that my husband asked him to mail it to my house, as he’d be in my hometown to propose. All this was unknown to me- as we left the house together to go to breakfast, the mailman showed up with a small package for me, which my husband intercepted. We went to breakfast and then hiked up a mountain trail, where he proposed with the ring that had arrived at the last possible moment! It was wonderful, and we have a great story to tell our kids 🙂

While I am not engaged I would love something that is personal like dinner at my favorite place to eat followed by a walk in the park on a cool evening and him stopping down on 1 knee and asking for my hand in marriage something very personal. I am not big on showy
