Allergic to Beauty: Our Favorite All-Natural Skincare for Sensitive Skin Spa Week Editor All Stories, Allergic to Beauty, Beauty, Skin Leading skincare brand, boscia was developed 36 years ago in Japan and introduced in the United States in 2002. They’re the world’s first 100% preservative-free skincare brand. They’re formulas a perfect for all skin types and especially great for people with sensitive skin because they use a state-of-the-art Clean Room manufacturing facility. The facility is classified at a pharmaceutical grade level and it utilizes air pressure to keep the space free of bacteria. Many skincare brands have to use preservatives in order to prolong the shelf life of their products and ensure that they stay bacteria-free. boscia mixes raw materials and sterilizes them at high heat which eliminates bacteria without the use of pesky preservatives. When I first started as Editorial Director of Spa Week Daily I was a newbie when it came to knowing the ins and outs of skincare ingredients. Since I try new products every day, I’ve made it a point to research everything I put on my face. One of the most important things I’ve learned is how effective all-natural products can be. Like many people, I’ve always struggled with acne. When I first started this job I was taking an oral prescription twice a day to eliminate oil, using three topical creams, and cleansing with a prescription face wash. That’s a lot of chemicals to be slathering on everyday, but they were prescribed by a doctor so they had to work, right? To be honest, the results I was seeing weren’t cause for celebration. My acne certainly hadn’t been cured. Only after I started using all-natural products did I start to see very noticeable results. How had I gone all my life with the notion that chemicals were the most effective way to fix my skin? I can’t imagine how many breakouts I could have curbed had I known the benefits of all-natural skincare. boscia is one of my favorite skincare brands for all these reasons and more. I’m continually impressed with their commitment to eliminating common ingredients that can be harsh on skin and cause irritation. Ingredients in skincare products are extremely important, but what doesn’t go into them can make all the difference when it comes to effective products. Here’s a list of ingredients boscia does not use: preservatives, ethanol alcohol, bactericides, synthetic fragrances, synthetic colorants, mineral oil, animal ingredients, and gluten. boscia’s products are great for all skin types, but if you have sensitive or easily irritated skin I highly recommend you give the brand a try. I was lucky enough to chat with one of their skincare scientists to learn more about what sets boscia apart from other brands. Check out our Q&A below! Can you tell us about boscia’s Japanese Cleansing Ritual? The Japanese Cleansing Ritual is a daily ritual followed by women in Japan ensures flawless skin. boscia has taken this centuries-old Japanese Cleansing Ritual and combined it with modern innovations in three very simple steps to follow at home. First, remove your makeup. This allows the outer layer of makeup and buildup to be removed so you can cleanse your skin. Second, cleanse skin. Using your favorite boscia cleanser paired with a Konjac Cleansing Sponge, you will wash away any impurities. Third, exfoliate. Incorporating our Tsubaki Oil-Infused Exfoliating Powder or Exfoliating Peel Gel allows you to smooth your skin’s texture to maximize serum, moisturizer and treatment benefits resulting in clean, gorgeous skin. How does the Japanese approach to skin care differ from America’s approach, and how do boscia’s products reflect that difference? In Japan, perfecting the skin even before wearing makeup has been the cultural beauty focus for hundreds of years. boscia brings that heritage to a North American client with innovations that can be used in every skincare routine, no matter how simple or detailed the ritual. Konjac is an ingredient few Americans know by name, but konjac sponges are quickly becoming a cult item. What other powerhouse beauty ingredients are you hoping to see “discovered”? Yes, Konjac is certainly a hot topic – just like charcoal! It’s very exciting and we’re so happy that we were the first to bring the Konjac Cleansing Sponge to Sephora! On the Charcoal topic – it really is the next big thing and has amazing benefits! Have you seen our new Charcoal Deep-Pore Cleansing Stick Treatment and Black Charcoal Cleansing Cloths yet? Both are infused with this key ingredient and provide unprecedented cleansing benefits! What’s the story behind boscia’s “Botanical Blend”? How did this particular blend become the key ingredient in all of your products? Each boscia product is infused with our “botanical blend” of Jojoba Leaf and Willowherb. Jojoba Leaf is a powerful antioxidant that helps to prevent free radical damage caused by pollution, UV rays, and other environmental irritants. Willowherb Extract is a natural skin-calming botanical that helps to alleviate inflammation and redness. Aside from the tried-and-true products and methods, does boscia seek out new ingredients and techniques? How much of a focus is on research and exploration? We are always seeking out new, exciting ingredients and innovations to bring to our consumers. Why is boscia’s packaging and clean room manufacturing so important? What are the benefits to boscia users? As the first 100% preservative-free skincare brand, our clean room manufacturing ensures that boscia products stay fresh and completely bacteria-free without the use of harsh preservatives.
