A French Twist on What It Means to Spa Spa Week Editor All Stories, Spa, Spa Spotlight One of the hottest new spas in NYC offers a French twist on a facial with an intriguing name. Marie-Lou & D is a salon and spa that offers the highest full-service experience with top-level European hair and beauty experts. Everyone at this luxe location strives to give clients the creative inspiration to express themselves in an inviting and beautiful atmosphere. Drawing on the understated elegance of Paris and the bustling energy of New York for inspiration, Dharmendra Manwani, founder of Marie-Lou & D, wanted to create a brand that embodied Marie-Lou, the icon. A woman who personifies being chic and beautiful at any age, but who is also not afraid to take risks with her style. This salon and spa is located in the heart of Soho, the most fashion-forward neighborhood in NYC. Their world-class stylists and estheticians deliver on their promise to help clients express themselves and appreciate their best features. When you visit, you’ll find state-of-the-art hair services, facials, massages, and expert mani-pedis all under one roof. I recently visited Marie-Lou & D with my fellow editor. While she had her hair totally transformed, I enjoyed a deeply relaxing Vinosource Facial. Developed by Caudalie, this treatment provided my parched winter skin with nourishment and hydration. You might be curious about the name and wonder if I had wine slathered on my face or steamed into my pores at any point, but no! The facial’s name is derived from the Caudalie line of Vinosource products used throughout the service. The facial started with a much needed deep cleansing and exfoliation before steam was applied to open my pores. After that, I was given a very thorough round of painless extractions. Then came my favorite part of the hour-long service: the massage. All my stress melted away as my face, decolletage, shoulders, arms, hands, and feet were treated to such a relaxing massage. I almost fell asleep. It was bliss. To round out the treatment, a hydrating mask was applied to my face followed by a final round of Vinosource products. At the end of the service I was so relaxed and cozy by the time my esthetician stepped out of the room, I didn’t want to leave. I did, however, want to see how our editor’s hair transformation was going so eventually I waddled out into the salon, clad in a warm, fluffy robe and slippers, and sought to find my spa partner in crime and revel in my renewed skin. Under the bright lights of the salon, I saddled up to a mirror to get a good look at the results of the facial. There wasn’t a blackhead in sight and my skin was absolutely glowing. All my previous signs of winter dryness had vanished and I was left with the dewy face of an angel. That last part might be pushing it, but seriously, my skin looked amazing.
