Look, we all know that fried food tastes amazing. But the guilt that we feel after eating something so delicious but so bad for us is terrible. The fat, the calories, the mess and danger of frying food in your own home puts most people off frying at home. But what if we told you there was a way to enjoy that fried food flavor without any of the boiling oil? Well, there is a way: air frying!

Air fryers are a new up-and-coming kitchen appliance that allows you to enjoy the flavor and texture of fried foods without the fat, calories, and mess of traditional frying methods. They use forced hot air to “fry” foods – making them crispy and delicious – without the oil. Using your air fryer, you can create restaurant quality food cheaper and healthier than ever before.

Celebrity chef, Todd English, has created a user-friendly, fun cookbook using the air fryer than anyone can do at home. This is the first and only air fryer cookbook on the market, and we were lucky enough to snag some delicious and amazing recipes to share with our loyal readers:

ZUCCHINI-PARMESAN CHIPS

(Makes 2 servings)

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 medium zucchini
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • ½ cup Italian-seasoned  Breadcrumbs (page 143)
  • ½ cup freshly  grated  Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large  egg,  beaten
  • Canola oil cooking spray
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

DIRECTIONS

  1. Slice the zucchini into thin discs using a mandoline slicer or as thinly as possible with a knife.  Toss the zucchini slices with the salt and let drain in a colander for 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with cold water to get rid of excess salt. Then lay the zucchini slices on paper towels and pat dry.
  2. In a shallow bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese.
  3. Dip the zucchini slices in the egg, then dredge on each side in the breadcrumbs to coat thoroughly. Spray on each side with canola oil.
  4. Place the slices in the basket of the air fryer, making sure they don’t overlap. Air fry in batches at 390º F until crispy, about 10 minutes. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.

I’ve never used an air fryer but I have it bookmarked on my Amazon page. I am afraid to commit because it is so expensive and I haven’t found anyone who has tried it. Great premise though!

Yes, I have used an air fryer and it worked pretty well. I am not a fan of fried foods so it was better than traditional frying.
