A healthy start to your day is important! Seeing as it is National Nutrition Month, I’ve been trying to start every morning with a healthy breakfast to help power me through the day. The problem is, I start my mornings with a bit of a sweet tooth. I’m always tempted by the muffin at the bakery or the dreaded cinnamon roll. But luckily, I was saved by one thing: the smoothie bowl. 

Not only does the smoothie bowl appeal to my sweet tooth, it does so without adding unnecessary sugar to my diet. And since I’ve been trying to cut out dairy from my diet (the struggle!), this version using almond milk is the perfect way to start my morning. We’ll be sharing our favorite smoothie bowl recipes all month, but I’m starting you off with my favorite – the peanut butter cup!

Peanut Butter Cup Smoothie Bowl


  • 1⁄4 cup sweetened vanilla-flavored almond milk 
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 frozen banana, cut into pieces if necessary 
  • 1⁄2 cup peanut butter
  • 4 ice cubes

Suggested Toppings

  • Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Sliced banana
  • Mini chocolate chips


  1. In blender, combine almond milk, cocoa powder, banana, peanut butter and ice. Secure lid and blend (from low to high if using a variable-speed blender) until smooth.
  2. Pour into a bowl or bowls and top with any of the suggested toppings, as desired.
