This former writer and critic for Entertainment Weekly burst onto the scene in 2006 with her debut novel, Sharp Objects. Her second novel, Dark Places, gained her even more acclaim, giving her a reputation for writing dark and engaging mysteries. Gillian Flynn has been a household name since the 2012 release of her novel, Gone Girl. #1 on the New York Times bestseller list for eight weeks, Gone Girl was soon made into a film, with Flynn on board to write the screenplay.

Flynn is known for her dark but relatable stories, whose characters and motivations always seem to hit close to home. Her novels have been considered “wily, mercurial, subtly layered and populated by characters so well imagined that they’re hard to part with,” according to the New York Times. And this definitely holds true in The Grownup.

The Grownup will hit the shelves on November 3rd, and at a quick 64 pages, there’s no reason you shouldn’t be picking it up. It’s a hard book and author to resist. We’ll be reviewing The Grownup here on the blog as our Book of the Month, so get reading and stay tuned!
