We’ve contoured, we’ve strobed—and now, we’re non-touring. Kim Kardashian, Queen of Contouring, said it herself just a few months ago, telling Vogue UK, “I think right now it’s more about non-touring, like real skin with less make-up on it.” The bad news? You’ll have to put your collection of bronzers into storage. The good news: this soft, glowy, lit-from-within look is way faster and easier to pull off, sans hours of YouTube tutorials. More time to sleep in every morning? We’ll take it. Here’s how to master the look yourself: Step 1: Think skincare first, not makeup Photo via Putilich New York-based esthetician Elizabeth M. Donat says serious skincare and skincare-centric cosmetics are key to nailing the non-touring look. “Because non-touring does not rely on darker shades of foundation or powders to carve out the contours of the face, the muscles must provide that definition and lift from within,” she says, recommending monthly professional facials that include a facial massage or microcurrent treatment. Step 2: Perfect your pores Photo via Getty Images It’s hard to glow when your pores are all gunked up, so upkeep is important to keep that post-facial glow going. Celebrity dermatologist Dr. Harold Lancer, who’s worked with Beyonce and Kim Kardashian, says exfoliating is key—but be gentle. He prefers to think of it as polishing fine silver rather than scrubbing—a gentle buff that removes surface debris, infuses pores with oxygen and reveals your skin’s natural shine. Step 3: Hydrate Photo via Complete Disbelief You can’t get dewy skin when it’s dehydrated. “I love ingredients like hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C,” Donat says. “Hyaluronic acid binds water to the skin for that bounce-back factor and dewy-ness and Vitamin C is my all time favorite for brightening, tightening and lightening.” She recommends Obagi Professional-C Serum 15% and SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Gel. And don’t forget about keeping yourself hydrated in general—drinking plenty of water may help keep skin supple and plump. Step 4: Prep and perfect Photo via Love Life Love Fashion Got five minutes before you need to be out the door? Mix a lightweight primer and a tinted moisturizer in equal parts, and smooth over your face.Donat suggests (she loves Jane Iredale Smooth Affair Facial Primer and Brightener paired with the Dream Tint). If you need a little more coverage, prime first before applying a lightweight product like Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation. It’s formulated with brightening Vitamin C and offers just enough coverage to hide imperfections, but it’ll actually improve your skin’s natural glow over time. Step 5: Get glowing Image via Benefit Cosmetics Time for the finishing touches. Donat’s final steps: a touch of cream blush on the apples of the cheeks and a liquid highlighter like Benefit High Beam on the brow bone, top of the cheeks, and the top of the cupid’s bow. Remember, softness is key. So go nuts with the makeup sponge until you’ve erased any harsh lines. Add a coat or two of mascara, and you’re ready to strut to work like you’re on the Victoria’s Secret runway (except you’ll be wearing pants). Written by Diana Vilibert.
