Don’t let the name of this gym fool you into thinking you are in for a couch potato approved chair workout because you aren’t. Yes, you will be using a Pilates chair, but you will be sweating and are in for a grueling workout (not for the faint of heart). We spoke to co-founder, Rachel Piskin to find out how she and her mother’s ballet/Pilates background compelled them to create their exercise love child, the Reinvention Chair.

What makes ChaiseFitness stand out?

What makes ChaiseFitness stand out is our unique patented system made up of the overhead bungee system combined with a fitness chair. This system provides the framework in which we continually develop new programming (right now we have 7 types of classes) fusing together Pilates, ballet, strength training and aerobics. We not only focus on building long, lean, and sculpted muscles, we help clients improve their posture, spinal health, core stability and strength due to the overhead bungee system. ChaiseFitness is still a family business, that lends itself in creating a strong sense of community, which is why it is important that we always have small class sizes (a max of 18 at our FiDi studio) to ensure all clients get hands on corrections, connect with the instructor, and most importantly learn how to work in proper form! However, the biggest thing that makes our programming stand out is that all of our classes are FUN!                                                                             

What’s the one thing you always do when planning a class?

Our class formats are designed to be taught the same way each class; however, we spend a lot of time creating new variations that are used to help continually challenge our clients and keep it fun.

Describe the atmosphere? Ideal demographic? All levels?

What is so unique and special about our studios is the range in levels and demographics that can take our classes. Since our classes are low impact and incorporate resistance with Pilates all ages can take it and at any fitness level.  We work very hard on creating a supportive, non-intimidating, and intimate atmosphere for all of our clients. Due to the small class sizes, our instructors really get to connect with clients, help them reach their individual goals, and ensure they are learning proper form to see ultimate results.

What is your go-to pre & post workout snack?

We always have nuts at our studio for clients to grab before or after class. It can be almonds, mixed nuts, or I love ones that mix a little-dried fruit in the mix! I don’t ever feel overly full, but it helps me feel less hungry and last till when I can get a proper pre or post workout meal.

What is your ultimate health/fitness tip you swear by?

Just because there are all these fitness options now doesn’t mean you have to do all of them. Too many people are injuring themselves and not seeing results because they are in fact “mixing it up” too much! Give your body a chance to see results and get good at something by committing yourself to a select number of workouts.

What is your favorite workout move?

We do a move in our CHAISE Reinvention and CHAISE Cardio class called the Pike. We have a lot of fun variations on the simple pike move we get to challenge our clients with, but it is one killer fun and ab exercise!

When I’m teaching, I’m most impressed by a student who?

When I am teaching I am most impressed by the student who commits and focuses on form and consistency rather then try to compete with those around them. That type of client is always most successful because they are learning the proper form first, which fosters long lasting results.

Can you share any upcoming partnerships/or news with us?

We have our first franchise opening in Madison New Jersey in November! We are very excited to be expanding outside NYC and hopefully this will just be the beginning of our franchise expansion.
