Is Cryotherapy the secret to your wellness success?

It was unseasonably cold as we headed uptown to Kryolife on West 57th, for our first $90 Cryotherapy session, where we would cryogenically freeze our body for three minutes to improve circulation, cellulite and collagen production. We suddenly were wishing we had the foresight to book this treatment during summer, but we were committed (besides how bad could three minutes be?). Read below to find out what you can expect from your first treatment.

What is Cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy is a treatment that exposes the body to cryogenic temperatures, which is generally around -120 to -160 degrees Celsius. During a 2-to-3-minute session, the blood vessels on your skin’s surface and muscle tissues constrict, forcing blood toward your core. In the core, the body’s natural filtration system work to remove toxins and inflammatory properties of the blood. The body also must work to keep the core temperature elevated.

Diet Restrictions

There is no prior preparation but a healthy diet will improve results, of course Afterwards, clients should drink lots of water to help aid in recovery.

Entering the Cryosauna

The air is cooled inside a separate chamber using liquid nitrogen. The cooled air is then released inside the cryosauna, where it comes in contact with the client. There is absolutely no moisture inside the cryosauna due to the extreme temperatures, and the air is completely dry. That is why there is no freezing or the uncomfortable feeling associated with ice baths even though cryotherapy temps are much lower.

Post Treatment

Clients are given the option to ride our stationary bike for a few minutes to help recirculate the blood flow and help them warm up faster. Many clients find they perform better in the gym after a Kryolife session and the increased metabolic rate helps burn fat and build muscle with the appropriate diet and routine. Clients are guided based on their goals and fitness history.

Beauty Benefits

Increased collagen production, (tighter skin, smoother looking), increased energy, increased testosterone in men, weight loss, and reduction in the appearance of cellulite. People with acneic skin will especially benefit as cryotherapy works from the inside out to remove inflammation and toxins. Acne is a result of toxins in the body when toxins are removed, the acne is improved. The return blood flow to the skin helps clear the pores and clean problem areas under the skin.

Final Results

Most clients feel great after one treatment but because cryotherapy works with each individuals’ own body chemistry, some clients may need more treatments than others. For severe aches and pain, a series of 10 treatments will result in the best long-term results.
