Wait a month between waxing visits. Check. Never shave with a dull blade, got it. We’ve got the basics down, but we spoke to Caterina Marra-Vazquez of Tribeca Beauty to bring you the five tips you need to know.

Fact #1: The Age Factor

The younger you start getting waxed, the finer the hair will be as you age which equals a painless waxing experience!

Fact #2: Pain Relief

If you’re particularly sensitive, take two Tylenol an hour before you get waxed to experience a much less intense sensation.

Fact #3: Soft vs Hard Wax

Soft or Hard, which is best? They are both soft upon application, however, soft wax is removed with strips of cloth. This method is ideal for larger areas like legs since they can be done quickly. Hard wax goes on as a liquid but hardens quickly. Once it is hardened the therapist can remove the hair with the actual wax itself.  It is preferred for smaller, more sensitive areas as it causes less of a shock to that area: think eyebrow, lip, bikini.

Fact #4: Get Shady

If you experience any redness or sensitivity afterward, apply a little hydrocortisone on the area to soothe the waxed area. Also, make sure to keep the area dry and out of the sunlight for at least 48 hours.

Fact #5: Say No To Retinol

Do not use any retinol or strong acids on your face before and directly after any lip, brow or any facial waxing appointments (you could literally take skin off)! If that happens, the skin takes months to heal from that kind of trauma.
