I’ll bet $100 that you’ve heard of Bio-Oil if you ever asked anyone how to get rid of scars or diminish stretch marks. It’s one of those holy-grail products that has continued to filter its way down the generations but is it really worth the hype? I decided to find out and to test this product twice a day on my upper thighs – an area that has plagued me with horrendous stretch marks and discoloration. What is Bio-Oil? Bio-Oil ($11.99; 2.0 oz) is a rich oil-based moisturizer that was designed to hydrate and nourish the skin. It was developed in 1986, after Dieter Beier, a German cosmetic scientist, was searching for an affordable solution to healing scars and stretch marks. The rich oil-based product is designed to heal scars, stretch marks, aging skin, uneven skin tone and dehydrating skin by keeping oxygen out and locking all of the moisture and vitamins into the skin. The primary ingredient, PurCellin oil, was developed in a lab to replicate the effects of the preen gland found in ducks. The gland secretes an oil that’s distributed all over a duck’s body, creating a non-greasy layer that repels water and helps the duck swim effectively. Did it help? After two months of using this, I’ll admit that I’m a huge fan. You’re not going to see results for the first 3 weeks to a month depending on how severe your problem is and how dedicated you are to your skin care regime. I saw results after using this oil twice a day for 3.5 weeks (see photos below). The stretch marks on my upper thighs are noticeably smoother and softer when I rub my hand down my leg. The discoloration has started to lighten but I’m not sure if that’s because of the lack of sun or the Bio-Oil. I will continue to use the products for the next 6 months to see how my skin progresses. Also, here is a tip – if you have a liquid lipstick that is too drying on your lips, you can add in a drop or two of bio-oil to give it a little bit of moisture. It’s safe for your lips and won’t ruin the formula (as long as you don’t use too much). Just add the drop in the bottle, shake it up and you’ll be good to go. Ingredients: Paraffinum liquidum (mineral oil), triisononanoin, cetearyl ethylhexanoate, isopropyl myristate, retinyl palmitate, tocopheryl acetate, anthemis nobilis flower oil, lavandula angustifolia (lavender) oil, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf oil, calendula officinalis flower extract, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, glycine soja (soybean) oil, BHT, bisabolol, parfum (fragrance) *This product is listed as safe to use during pregnancy. 6 Responses Lily March 15, 2017 Wow this oil does really works and I love the fact that is multi-use. I’ll check to see if this product is available here in Canada. Great tip about about a drop to your liquid lipstick to add moisture. Your honest opinion is always appreciated. Thanks Cynira! Reply Manisha kapoor March 16, 2017 Its effective 👍👍👍 Reply Evangelia Zachariadou March 15, 2017 I’ve heared so many things about that product also I heard calling it like the miracle oil I have no opinion about it but certainly is a product that I would love to try with my dehydrated skin especially on hands. After your presentation I’m intrigued to buy it !💋 Reply Kristen Melissa March 15, 2017 I have heard so many great things about this product and actually have a bottle to test out myself too ! I have been waiting bc I want to give it the ultimate test and try it out on my breast reduction scars as soon as my surgeon gives me the okay. I’m still healing so I’m currently not allowed to put anything on the scars at all. Still have regular check ups and am in the surgical bra. Once I get the okay and I start using it I will let you know if I have any luck ! I have almost no scaring by the nipple or straight down the breasts except just under each breast there is a scar. I’m actually really surprised at how well I healed scar wise . Reply Gabriela Sanchez March 15, 2017 Thank you for reviewing this product I have heard of this but never actually purchased it bc I wanted to see before and after pictures.. Before I purchased it.
