The beauty of removing hair by laser is that in the long run it saves time and money, because once the hair is gone, there is no reason to bother with razors, foam, waxing or tweezing – YAY!  BUT, there can be side effects.  Nichole Garcia of Luxe Laser Lounge at Boom Boom Brow Bar (30 Greenwich Avenue) shares important tips for before and after a laser treatment to get the best results.

There are normal, temporary, minor side effects, like redness, swelling and itching and rarely more serious side effects like bruising and burning.  So, it is important to know what to do before and after a treatment to minimize side effects.

Before a Laser Treatment

  • Avoid the sun for 2 weeks prior to the service.
  • Refrain from waxing, tweezing and exfoliating.
  • Advise the technician if taking photosensitive medications (hormone treatments, acne medications, birth control and anti-inflammatory drugs).

All of the above compromise skin making it more fragile and prone to side effects.

After a Laser Treatment

  • The heat from the laser may cause dryness; it’s a good idea to apply aloe vera or a gentle fragrance free lotion.
  • Pores are open, so don’t go to the gym on the same day and do not go swimming for 2 days.

Caring for skin properly after the service will prevent redness, itching and infection.
