Get ready for the best (and coldest) three minutes of your life. 


Over the years, I’ve seen so many celebrities and social media stars freeze their butts off in these ice chambers in the name of good health. I mean everyone from Floyd Mayweather Jr., Lindsay Lohan and Daniel Craig swears by it, so I decided that it was time for me to head down to CryoVigor on 46th street for my first Cryotherapy session.

What is Cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy is a treatment that exposes the body to cryogenic temperatures, which is generally around -120 to -160 degrees Celsius. During a 2-to-3-minute session, the blood vessels on your skin’s surface and muscle tissues constrict, forcing blood toward your core. In the core, the body’s natural filtration system works to remove toxins and inflammatory properties of the blood while enriching your blood with oxygen.

Kathy from CryoVigor explained to us that this “oxygen enriched blood bolsters organs and when you step out of the Cryochamber the blood is released from the ‘internal cycle’ and flows back out to your extremities bringing all the healing properties with it. Over the next 6-8 hours your body will continue to recover and restore to a better self.”

Acne is a result of toxins in the body and as the toxins are removed the blood returns to the rest of the body, it helps to clear the pores and clean problem areas under the skin.

Entering the Cryochamber

The air is cooled inside a separate chamber using liquid nitrogen. The cooled air is then released inside the cryochamber, where it comes in contact with the client. There is absolutely no moisture inside the chamber due to the extreme temperatures, and the air is completely dry. That is why there is no freezing or the uncomfortable feeling associated with ice baths even though cryotherapy temps are much lower.

Diet Restrictions

Avoid drinking alcohol before your appointment. Afterwards, clients should drink lots of water to help aid in recovery.

Post Treatment

Clients are given the option to ride the stationary bike for a few minutes to help recirculate the blood flow and help them warm up faster. Many clients find they perform better in the gym after a CryoVigor session and the increased metabolic rate helps burn fat and build muscle with the appropriate diet and routine. Clients are guided based on their goals and fitness history.

Final Results

Give the process an honest effort and at least several treatments before you decide if it helps or not. Most clients feel great after one treatment but because cryotherapy works with each individuals’ own body chemistry, some clients may need more treatments than others. For severe aches and pain, a series of 10 treatments will result in the best long-term results.

For me, I felt immediate results – my shoulders weren’t sore anymore and I fell asleep like a baby at 8pm EST after my first treatment (normally, you’ll find me on my computer editing until 3 in the morning).

So would I book it again? Absolutely! The worst part of the treatment was the initial blast of cold and adjusting to that. Other than that, the benefits + how amazing the staff at CryoVigor is makes this my go to Cryo-treatment facility!
