April is Stress Awareness Month and we’re bringing you tips, tricks, and everything you need to know about managing stress. One of the best (and easiest!) ways you can manage everyday stress is by taking breaks. Breaks can help you be more productive, more relaxed, and do better work. There are tons of reasons you might need a break (right now!), but here are our top 5:

The stress is getting to you.

If you’re starting to feel overwhelmed and feeling any mental or physical effects of stress, it’s time for a break.

      2. Your work is suffering because of your stress.

Your performance can decline due to stress, nerves, or anxiety. If you’re noticing that the work you’re doing isn’t up to the standards you’re used to, it might be time for a break.

      3. The exhaustion is affecting your body.

Feeling tired and fatigued? Take a break. Exhaustion caused from stress or lack of sleep can have serious consequences for your body and overall health. Taking a break can help some of those negative side effects.

      4. You’re neglecting self-care.

This is one of the biggest indicators that you need a break: you aren’t taking care of yourself. If you aren’t doing enough for yourself, you’re mind, body, and spirit might all be suffering. Take care of yourself by taking a break that you need and deserve.

      5. It will make you feel better!

The biggest reason you deserve a break is that it will make you feel better. Breaks can help ease stress and anxiety, improve your mood, and do so much more. If for no other reason, take some time for yourself every day, because it will leave you feeling healthier and happier.

So we’ve determined that you need and deserve a break– but how do you take one from a busy day? Here are our 5 favorite ways to take quick and easy breaks that will leave us feeling refreshed & renewed.

      1. Go on a long walk during your lunch break.

Fresh air can make a huge difference in your mood and your health! Even if you bring your lunch to work or to school, take a long walk outside during your time off. It’ll help you focus and breathe better when you get back inside.

      2. Make a snack for yourself.

This simple tasks accomplishes two things: 1- you’ll get to take a break and do something fun, and 2- you’ll get to eat! Sometimes when we’re not taking breaks, we’re also not taking care of our basic human needs– like eating!

      3. Exercise.

One of the key ways to take a break from day-to-day life is exercising. Going on a walk or a jog or heading to a zumba or spin class can help get your mind off of any stress that you’re feeling. Plus: endorphins make you happy.

      4. Meditate or practice breathwork.

Close your eyes and relax for a minute. Focusing on your breathing and giving yourself time to think can really help clear your mind– it’s the perfect way to take a break. Plus, if you don’t have much time, breathwork can be done in short increments– just one minute at a time!

      5. Visit the spa.
