We know that healthy lifestyles don’t just revolve around having a healthy diet and exercising regularly. While these two things are incredibly important, they’re not all that matters. There are a lot of aspects to consider when it comes to wellness: there’s medical health and mental/emotional health.  It can be hard to keep track of everything you need to do to live a healthy life. We’re breaking it down into 5 easy health tips to live a much healthier, happier life. While there’s always more you can do to take care of yourself and different individuals need to focus on different elements of wellness, we think these 5 steps will improve everyone’s lives and make a huge difference in yours.

  • Drink plenty of water and get enough sleep at night.

This is the most basic and fundamental part of taking care of yourself. Sleep affects everything from your ability to focus to your physiological state and your likelihood of getting some diseases. We recommend investing in a sleep tracker and going to bed at the same time every night so that you can get optimal sleep.

Drinking enough water is another vital part of taking care of yourself. 64 ounces everyday is a good guideline to go by. It may seem like a lot, but trust us, it’s worth it. Being dehydrated can seriously mess up your physical and mental health.

  • Exercise regularly.

Remember: endorphins make you happy and happy people don’t shoot their husbands. Some people look at exercise as a big challenge that they don’t have the time or ability to focus on. We try not to think of it like that. Exercise is something that your body needs, but it doesn’t need to be all you ever think about or do. Start with an exercise you enjoy- going on walks, swimming in the pool, doing yoga, dancing… whatever makes you happy– and just try to incorporate that activity into your routine a few days a week. Once you’ve gotten into that routine, you can upgrade your workouts and make them more challenging.

  • Eat a lot of vegetables and fruits.

There are hundreds of diets out there that can help you plan out every meal that you eat and the nutritional ingredients of everything you put into your body. If that’s something you’re interested in, good for you! But for a lot of us, eating a balanced diet is hard enough. That’s why we recommend just focusing on two small changes that can really affect your body and your overall wellness. Add some fruit to your cereal in the morning, grab some carrot sticks for a snack in the afternoon… whatever works for you.

  • Make time for yourself.

Alone time is one of our biggest recommendations for anyone who wants to improve their overall mental health and wellness. Time alone is important for anyone and everyone. It doesn’t matter how you spend that time or what you’re doing during your alone time, it just matters that you take some time for yourself every single day.

  • Evaluate your feelings and emotions, and try to understand them.

Another step to living your best life is understanding your emotions and feelings. Mental health is a huge part of your overall wellness. Whether you do this by journaling, talking to someone, keeping a mood chart, or another method: track your emotions. Track how you’re feeling and what makes you feel that way. It’ll help your mental health and you’ll probably learn a lot about yourself in the process.
